This episodes features my conversation with Jason Parkes. The man behind the winery that is the hatch, and the various entities that flow from it. Jason and his team have made a name for themselves by being unique and providing some character and fun to the world of wine, and because of this, they are a known presence in the Okanagan.
Their tasting room is always full. Jason and I sat down for an hour and talked a lot of topics, some of them too controversial to be recorded. I learned a lot more about the man that runs this fun, dynamic brand known as the hatch. He has a great team of people that assist him, and because of them, his ideas have flourished.
Great photos of all our guests can be found on our website here. I was fortunate enough to stay with my friends on the Kitsch Wines property, and sample different wineries at this celebration. Some of them truly are garagiste level, while others are verging on big name success. I was lucky enough to taste quite a few, with some of course being a very low intervention style, so a definite contrast to the bigger wineries.
All in all, a great weekend. I also managed to record a few minutes with three of my favourites from the Garagiste North Wine Festival, which was at Sperling Vineyards in East Kelowna. Hi Kathleen, thank you so much for your kind words! John is very passionate about what he does and we're extremely happy to have him here at Hosmer.
We're happy to hear you enjoyed your time with him and we hope to see you again! Our research led us to a tasting at Hosmer.
What wines do Americans drink and where do they buy them?
We enjoyed the drive in and the rustic views. The wines we had, especially the sparkling ones, were quite good. The tasting experience itself was rather bland. There are other Cayuga wineries that put their best foot forward and engage with interested visitors. We are very sorry that your tasting experience was not enjoyable. It is important to us that not only our customers enjoy the wines, but the expereicne as well. We do hope you will give Hosmer Winery another chance and visit us again. I am I admit a bit of a wine snob having had a collection of over bottles of quality wine at one time and still maintain a cellar of about bottles.
Most of my wines have been Napa Valley wines.

We have been tasting wines all over the area with more to taste over the next week or so. But this was our first stop where we had good full body and bold wines. Some could actually age a bit in the bottles before opening. Our tasting host was knowledgeable in his wines and willing to discuss them at length. A very good tasting and the best we have had so far. Our motorhome is filling up with their wines : BObK.
We are very happy to hear you enjoyed your time here at Hosmer. We really take pride in producing flavorful award-winning wines grown right here on our estate. Many of our wines have the potential to age up to 10 years.

If you have the patience, it's well worth it. My wife and I visited on a Thursday afternoon. The woman pouring our wine was nice and friendly. It was not busy so we had time to relax and enjoy our tasting. This was our first stop of the day. Both the red and white wines were very good! We really liked the Cab Franc and Chardonnay. But our favorites were the Lemberger and pinot Noir. We bought a bottle of each.
We're glad you decided to visit our tasting room again and found a few wines you enjoy! We look forward to your next visit!

Excellent wine selection for the tasting. I especially like the pinot grizio which was very light and fruity. Dry whites are great refreshing summer wines! We're glad you enjoyed your tasting and hope you visit us again soon!
